Hi Kristen -- thanks for your article! I enjoyed reading through your tips on successful Twitter use. I'm a public relations professional (big surprise -- I know!) working with Edmodo. If you're ever interested in an interview with one of the Edmodo founders for your blog, feel free to drop me an email at liz [at] sevansstrategy [dot] com.

Best,
Liz

Thanks for sharing, Kathy! In return, I look forward to learning more about educators' use of Twitter through your follow-up survey. In Kathy's expanded survey, she's looking for info from Twitter and non-Twitter users alike. To participate in the survey, visit http://linkyy.com/twittersurvey. It'll be interesting to see how the responses compare to the original sample set (CTOs, CIOs and technology directors on the CoSN Conference pre-registration list).

I created a Twitter account for the district and embedded it into the front page of the district Web site with only the current, single, tweet showing. We use it for urgent messages such as weather-related late starts, early releases, or snow days.

Take a look here if you are interested: http://nausetschools.org

We've had quite a bit of success using Twitter for the following:

1. Getting quick "focus group" answers to specific product or marketing questions.

2. Finding content authors for various elearning projects.

3. Learning about competitors.

Over all, it has taken us about 6 months to truly immerse ourselves in the K12 community within Twitter and we've purposely gone slowly so as not to disturb anyone.
